About the Donor Awareness Council

The Donor Awareness Council is a nonprofit coalition formed in 1989 to increase organ and tissue donation through public education and awareness. The Council's vision is to live in a community where organ and tissue donation is the community standard so that every potential transplant recipient has the opportunity for an increased quality of life.

As the only organization in Colorado and Wyoming whose sole mission is to increase donation through education and awareness, the Donor Awareness Council is proud of its remarkable progress. At this time, more than 60% of Colorado drivers Say "Yes" to donation on their license, compared with 33% in 1998. This progress is vital because there are currently more than 98,000 children and adults waiting for organ transplants in the United States, including almost 1700 people who are waiting for organ transplants at Colorado transplant centers. There are thousands more who can benefit from eye and tissue transplants.
